On 30 November 2023, a round table event was held in cooperation with the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial on the topic of “The History of Concentration Camp Survivors’ Associations after 1945”.

Guests from various memorial sites contributed to the discussion and presented their experiences and perspectives. The presentations and discussions made this an insightful event. It was organized by the Lehrstuhl für Neuere und Neueste Geschichte (Prof. Dietmar Süß) at the University of Augsburg, which is also part of the research network Conflicts.Meanings.Transitions. In this context, Johannes Lehmann presented his research on the “Comité International de Dachau”, which had founded the Dachau memorial site in 1965.

The event emphasised the relevance of such roundtables for an in-depth analysis of the post-war history of the concentration camps and the work of the survivors’ associations. In addition, the discussions contributed to a more comprehensive understanding of the history of the associations and highlighted the importance of such forums for the culture of remembrance.
